Letters received, ca. 1832-1894.

Chiefly letters received by Elliott and Fry, 1832-1894, with some family letters, one dated 1925. Letters to Elliott and Fry are from various individuals regarding making arrangements to be photographed, finished pictures, and other business matters such as photographing works of art. Correspondents include leading political and literary figures, members of the nobility, and artists, including Edwin Landseer, Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Frederic Leighton. Included are illustrated letters from Henry Courbold, Hubert von Herkomer, and Colin Hunter. Also included is a letter from Samuel Prout, in which he discusses the quality of artists' materials, and one from S.A. Hart (1840), in which he discusses the possibility of beginning an annual exhibition in Plymouth and establishing an "artists union" there. With three letters sent by the firm to different individuals, some family correspondence, four carte-de-viste photographs by Elliott and Fry, a small group of autographs, and poems. Arranged alphabetically by correspondent.
